It’s Finally Here! Introducing the 2020 Buick Encore GX

The all-new, 2020 Buick Encore GX is here! Though Buick’s Encore has already seen success as a crossover vehicle, the 2020 GX comes in a new size and look, which creates a completely different, and new, feel to the vehicle. The Encore GX fits itself perfectly between the subcompact Encore and the compact Envision, in terms of size, and it comes with tons of upgrades. Buick is bringing fresh excitement to the crossover market, and at Liberty Buick GMC, we can’t wait for you to drive the 2020 Encore GX.

America has experienced—and is still exciting—a surge in crossover vehicle sales. Something about having the control and luxury of a sedan mixed with the power and grit of a sport utility vehicle makes us happy and excited to drive. Vehicles like the Jeep Compass, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, the Subaru Crosstreck, and the new Mazda CX-30 are all carving out a section for themselves within the crossover family. The 2020 Buick Encore is a perfect addition to this lineup, and not only because it fits the bill as a crossover. The new Encore GX hopes to take a lead in the crossover market by bringing high style, true luxury, and innovative technology to the Encore GX.

The Exterior
The 2020 Buick Encore GX has a great new look. It comes in a total of nine beautiful colors:

  • White Frost Tricoat
  • Deep Azure Metallic
  • Burnished Bronze Metallic
  • Black Currant Metallic
  • Satin Steel Metallic
  • Ebony Twilight Metallic
  • Summit White
  • Dark Moon Blue Metallic
  • Chili Red Metallic
The slight curvature throughout the body provides contours and shadows, showing off the sleek design that could easily, at first glance, be mistaken for a modern Mercedes or Porsche SUV.

After a second look, though, you’ll realize you are in the presence of something impressively unique: a chrome surround starts at the front and reaches to the back; large taillights emphasize the breadth of the vehicle, while the modern design seems to pull the body in, giving it a fit, sporty aesthetic. The large grille up front is non-intrusive, but it does make a statement that this is something new, and quite possibly Buick’s most modern move in years.

Exterior Specs:
  • Wheelbase: (in)100.6
  • Track Width, Rear: (in)60.62
  • Height, Overall: (in)65.25
  • Length, Overall: (in)168.35
  • Min. Ground Clearance: (in)6.22
  • Track Width, Front: (in)60.65
  • Width, Max w/o mirrors: (in)70.1

The Interior
Inside the Encore GX, there are soft-touch materials throughout, LED lighting to set the mood, and an Infotainment center with all the bells and whistles.

Compared to the Encore, the 2020 GX has 5.0 more cubic feet of cargo space, and it comes with all sorts of standard safety features: There’s the automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection—a must-have these days; lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure warning (great for those long, exhausting drives); there is also a rear-camera mirror and a surround-view monitor to keep you always aware of your surroundings; and these safety features only scrape the surface of what’s available.
Here is a quick breakdown of the interior specs:
  • Front Hip Room: (in)51.65
  • Front Leg Room: (in)40.82
  • Second Shoulder Room: (in)52.5
  • Passenger Volume: (ft³)92.8
  • Second Head Room: (in)38.78
  • Front Shoulder Room: (in)54.18
  • Second Hip Room: (in)50.08
  • Front Head Room: (in)39.58
  • Second Leg Room: (in)35.75

More Features
The 2020 Buick Encore GX comes with a turbocharged I4, 1.4-liter engine and a 6-speed automatic, electronically-controlled with overdrive transmission—with driver shift control. The vehicle itself is considered an all-wheel-drive sport utility vehicle.

The four-door GX holds five passengers with ease and comfort for all, and it has a fuel economy of 24 mpg in the city, 29 highway, and a combined mpg of 26. Not bad at all, especially for a souped-up, turbocharged engine.

Here are just a few more features to the 2020 Buick Encore GX:

  • Brakes: 4-wheel antilock, 4-wheel disc
  • StabiliTrak, stability control system
  • Daytime Running Lamps, separate cavity, LED
  • Airbags, frontal and knee for driver and front passenger
  • Airbag, Passenger Sensing System
  • Seat belt, 3-point, driver with load limiter, height adjustable
  • Seat belt, 3-point, front passenger with load limiter, height
  • Restraint provisions, child Isofix 2 point for outboard seating
  • OnStar and Buick connected services capable
  • Buick Connected Access capable
  • Side Blind Zone Alert
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Rear Vision Camera
  • Door locks, child security rear, manual
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System, manual learn

With a zippy engine that does well to conserve fuel, a luxurious interior, and a cool-compact look to the exterior, the 2020 Buick Encore GX is quickly winning our hearts at Liberty Buick-GMC.

Beat the Heat Specials and No-Touch Service at Liberty Buick GMC

It’s important to make sure your vehicle is ready for the hot summer months. These extreme temperatures, especially here in the South, can wreak havoc on your car in all sorts of ways. This is why the service department at Liberty Buick GMC is running summer specials with No-Touch service.

When temperatures reach the 90s or above, it’s inevitable your vehicle will be affected. Everything from tires down to windshield wipers. The summer sun can warp, loosen, even melt these softer materials and it can fade or crack the harder pieces of your car. Some of these things you can check on your own. Engine coolant, oil, windshield wiper fluid, and tire pressure are all pretty easy and quick to check. And you should every few weeks, especially the engine coolant and oil. Low levels of either one of these can cause major damage to your car.

The worst-case scenario is that your car dies, right when you need it, and you have to get it towed. This can be pricy. A new battery can run a few hundred dollars, and towing can be even more depending on how far away you are from the service department. So what can you do? On those really hot days pay extra attention to the sound of your car as you start it. Does it seem to take a little longer to turn over? Does it seem sluggish? This could be your first warning sign that the battery liquid is low, and it would be a good idea to head straight over to our service department to have it taken care of.

One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes it is not the battery that is dying or dead. It could be the alternator. This device charges your battery as the car runs, and if it is damaged or ruined it can be even more expensive than a bad battery. Some warning signs your alternator is fading? Dim lights, trouble starting, strange smells, odd sounds, and warning lights.
But what about the more technical parts of your vehicle? Things like tire rotation, tire alignment, battery testing, brake check, and a complete vehicle inspection. These tend to be what go wrong during the summer, mostly because they are not easy to check. That is, of course, unless you take your vehicle to a reliable service provider like Liberty Buick GMC. Here you can have a professional technician complete a thorough search of your car to make sure you are ready for summer.
Here are just a few of the specials running this summer at Liberty’s service department:
  • TIRE PRICE MATCH GUARANTEE: Provide us with a better price at the time of purchase and we'll match it
  • 6-QT DEXOS1 OIL CHANGE Package: 6-Quart ACDelco dexos1 Full Synthetic Oil Change & Tire Rotation for $79.95
  • 8-QT DEXOS1 OIL CHANGE Package: 8-Quart ACDelco dexos1 Full Synthetic Oil Change & Tire Rotation for $79.95
  • PROFESSIONAL BRAKE PADS: Most ACDelco Professional Front Brake Pads Installed for $164.95
  • ACDELCO ADVANTAGE CAR ROTORS: ACDelco Advantage Front Brake Rotors installed on most cars & small SUVs for $169.95
  • ACDELCO ADVANTAGE TRUCK ROTORS: ACDelco Advantage Front Brake Rotors installed on most full-size trucks & SUVs for $209.95
And these are not all. It’s just not worth taking the risk this summer, especially when Liberty Buick GMC’s service department is running specials with prices this good. Be sure and schedule your appointment soon, and stay safe on the road this summer.

What sort of things will your service technician look for? Anything that is not performing properly, plus we will look for things that could go wrong in the near future. Intricate pieces like engine belts, hoses, and plugs. These all need replacing every so often, and if you wait until they completely malfunction you could be left stranded. And even worse, they could cause damage to other parts of your engine.

The service department at Liberty Buick GMC wants to keep your vehicle running as it should. Whether you need regular service and maintenance, a special part, repair work, or just someone to find and fix that clunky noise that won’t go away, Liberty’s team can take care of you. Call or set up an appointment today and be sure to ask about our No-Touch Service.

The GMC Sierra & GMC Canyon: Two of 2020’s Most Reliable Trucks

U.S. News and World Report recently included two of GMC’s most lauded trucks, the Serra and the Canyon, to its “Most Reliable Trucks of 2020” list. This accolade comes at no surprise to truck enthusiasts across the country, as the 2020 make of both models comes with impressive features and power (like class-leading hauling and towing capabilities). But what’s even more impressive, is you can have your new GMC Sierra or Canyon delivered to your driveway. It’s simple: shop, click, drive—and deliver.

Both the Sierra and Canyon have been top-sellers for the GMC for years, and this year they both pack even more of a punch. With new features, more power, and luxurious design and comfort, it’s easy to see why both of these trucks are being talked about so much already this year.

2020 Canyon
So what exactly has caused the all-new Canyon to be added to such a prestigious list? This year’s truck comes with three powertrain options, a luxurious (with high-quality materials) interior, and a 7-inch touch screen that connects to your smartphone, and it comes standard.

It can tow up to 7,700 pounds, and it gets 30 miles-per-gallon on the highway. Plus, it has an available 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot, providing you with connectivity at all times—without using your own service data.

2020 Sierra
There are quite a few reasons the new Sierra made U.S. News and National Report’s recent best of the best list. Here are a few “best-in-class” features to the 2020 GMC Sierra:
  • A three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty, and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
  • Incredible horsepower and torque from Sierra’s V-8 engine.
  • Impressive horsepower from the Sierra’s diesel engine.
  • A luxurious interior with tons of head and legroom.
  • Speaking of roominess, the 2020 Sierra also has more cargo bed space than its competitors.
  • There’s also the six-function Multipro Tailgate that opens and configures to help you get work done. This multi-function gate works by touchpad rather than a mechanical handle. Once engaged, the tailgate operates in six different ways to provide easy access to loaded materials, a work-station (with an outlet for charging!), stairs for easy climbing, and more. There has never been a tailgate this functional, which is just one more example of the complexity in thought that went into the new Sierra.

The Secrets of Purchasing a Reliable Used Car

A reliable used car will save you money, time, and resale value. On the other side of that, an unreliable car will cost you money, time, and resale value. So is it worth going used over new? Well, the answer will vary depending on the situation, but any time you are able to confidently buy used, yeah, it’s worth it.

The key word is “confidence.” There are too many stories of people going to buy a used car, thinking they know enough about the quality of the vehicle, only to end up dumping tons of money into it because it was a lemon. Confidently buying a used car means you have done your research; you know what to look and listen for; and you know the right price to pay. Getting to this point before buying a used car takes a little time and effort, but it is worth it.

Buying a pre-owned car can be tricky. When living in a city the size of Charlotte, things can become daunting. But the risks taken can often be minimized, or even eliminated, simply by following a few basic rules. Here are a few tips for buying a pre-owned car to get you going in the right direction:

  • Research the Car You Want

What car do you see yourself driving? (And don’t sell yourself short.) Sure a Bugatti might be out of the question, but if you have always wanted a Lexus SUV, don’t rule it out because you think it’s out of the budget. Then again, it might be out of your range, but the point is, you have to start someone in your search so why not begin with what you really want. Maybe make a list of your top four—that way, if one ends up being too pricy, you can quickly move to the next one.

Once you have a car in mind, spend time cruising around the internet doing some fact-finding. Look especially for things to watch out for in conjunction with your specific make and model, and narrow down your search as you go. Read through comparison guides and reviews on sites like kbb.org and caranddriver.com. You can also find reviews and blogs of used vehicles on various dealer websites like ours at Liberty Buick GMC.

Once you find what you like, stay firm in the "must-haves" (such as manual or automatic transmission, number of miles, engine size, etc.), but also be willing to budge on the smaller things. There is plenty of information out there, you just have to take the time to find it.

  • Know What to Spend and Have Cash in Hand

Begin by finding the highest and lowest price-points for the car you want. Do this by visiting the same websites you did when searching for a car—KBB and Car and Driver. Be sure and click “Private Seller” if you are not buying from a dealership. Once you have your price range, it’s not a bad idea to talk to a professional, such as one of Liberty Buick’s sales technicians, to double-check your prices. Now you are ready to buy.

It’s difficult to say no to cold, hard cash. Having only the cash you intend to spend in your pocket also keeps you honest with yourself, as you can’t be persuaded to spend more since you only have the cash you brought with you. It’s also a good idea to have cash when out looking at possible purchases because you never know when someone will swoop in and buy the car while you’re off to the bank. What’s more, since it’s tough to turn down cash, the possibility for you to underbid a vehicle is a little better.

  •  Get a Professional Assessment

Having a professional look over a potential used-car purchase is often replaced with a few hardy kicks to a tire and a peep under the hood. Unless you are a mechanic—an actual mechanic who works on actual cars as a career—you need to find a trustworthy one.

It can be time consuming to take a possible car purchase to a trusted mechanic, but it’s well worth it. In fact, it’s probably the most important thing you can do. No matter what the vehicle history says, or how you felt during the test drive, why not take the time and pay the $50-$100 it takes to have a professional scour through every inch to find anything potentially wrong or worrisome? There are plenty of shops in Charlotte that are trustworthy and fairly priced, such as Kirk Brown & Sons Expert Auto Repair and any of our technicians at Liberty Buick GMC.

  • The Dealer Knows Best

There are many options for quality used vehicles in the Charlotte, Matthews area. And once you have done your research, you should find that buying from a dealership is the most reliable option. This way you can avoid individuals trying to scam or con you into buying a lemon. And, the dealership will have certified paperwork proving that what they are selling you is as advertised. Still, there are a few best practices that can guarantee a successful purchase.

It is important to understand that a purchase of this sort is a contract. And before this contract is agreed upon, the buyer needs to consider the following three negotiating terms of the sale:

1. No matter how good the condition of the vehicle seems to be, you need to have the car inspected. This doesn’t have to take long. After a test-drive and peruse of the inside and out, the vehicle is plugged in and diagnosed. Mechanics use what is called an On-Board Diagnostics test, or OBD, to monitor a car’s computer system. When plugging the OBD into a car, the vehicle begins to communicate any trouble codes the system has stored—any time something goes wrong with a car, a message is sent and stored in the car’s computer.

The dealership should have a mechanic on site who can conduct a thorough inspection of your vehicle. Be sure to take a copy of the report for your files.

2. Create a detailed contract to be signed by both you and the seller. The notion of handing over a homemade contract might seem a little silly, but this is serious business with a lot of money on the line. In this contract, include details such as if the car is being sold “as is,” or if there are applied warranties. If there are warranties still tied to the vehicle, be sure and list them all, as well as, how much they are and how long they will last. Just remember, there is no detail too small to be included in this contract. List the date, the time, who is present, and have everyone sign and date.

3. Lastly, it is important to understand that nothing is final until the contract is signed by both the seller and the purchaser. And, as the purchaser, you mustn't sign anything until the vehicle you are getting is completely as you want it. For example, do not sign a contract with an agreement that the seller will include new tires but has not yet done so. No matter how trustworthy a person seems to be, big purchases like this must be done in complete and done the right way.

Pre-Owned Vehicles at Liberty Buick
Among the many makes and models of our used cars, one that stands out is the 2018 Buick Regal. And we have a variety of Regal models ranging in price from $24,000 to $36,000.

Why the Regal? Because it has plenty to offer. For one, it saves you money by cutting back on trips to the gas station. 21 miles-per-gallon in the city and 29 highway keep cash in your pocket and allow for longer ride times. Add in the fact the 2018 Regal wagon comfortably seats five passengers and has over 73 cubic feet of storage space, and it's already pretty appealing.

Inside the 2018 Buick Regal there are soft-touch surfaces and premium materials throughout, making this wagon the most modern and luxurious in its class. Let’s have a closer look:
  • The rear seats can fold 60/40 or 40/20/40, which enables passengers to arrange storage space in a variety of ways. Up front and directly behind there is more than enough room to stretch and relax and just enjoy the ultra-smooth ride.
  •  The Quiet Tuning technology incorporates acoustic laminated front, side, and windshield glass, triple door sealing, and innovative suspension tuning to block out exterior noise.
  • There is dual-zone climate control that automatically keeps two separate temperatures, one on the driver’s side and the other for the passenger. These temps can be preset or changed at any time.
  • To top it off, the 2018 Buick Regal wagon has excellent sound with Bose Premium Audio, which has been modernized for seamless connectivity and performance.

The 2018 Buick Regal has a unique look. It resembles something of a low-sitting luxury sports car rather than what comes to mind when the word “wagon” is thrown around. Its rugged styling and sleek line-work, combined with multiple exterior features, scream adventure. Here are a few highlights:
  • The sturdy, yet lightweight, aluminum roof rails and crossbars make it simple to attach and carry anything from bicycles, to kayaks, to luggage. This wonderful feature opens up even more space inside, allowing for more passengers or even more room for gear.
  • The hands-free power liftgate comes with an LED sensor that reflects on the ground so you can see exactly where to hover your foot. Then, watch the back hatch open and close on its own. This makes grocery shopping and kid carrying so much easier and fun.
  • Signature LED headlights come with auto-leveling technology, an advanced system to keep the path in front of you always perfectly lit. There are also fog lights and the new Arrival Sequence, which lights up the car as you approach (this is a great safety feature for those nights when you have to walk to your car alone. Just hit a button and the lights turn on).
The combination of a push-button start and keyless entry keeps you, well…keyless. No bundle of keys to keep up with, to lose or forget. Now, it’s just buttons to be pushed and you are on your way. It does not get more modern than this.
Once you have done your research and you know the price you want to pay, come see us at Liberty Buick. We’ll get you in the (reliable and used) car of your dreams.

The 2020 GMC Acadia Gets a Facelift—And It’s Impressive

Since the first model was released in 2006, General Motors has intended for the GMC Acadia to appeal to families who want a luxurious vehicle without paying an exorbitant price. Given the popularity of the Acadia, particularly since it went from full-size to mid-size SUV classification in 2017, it looks as if the plan is working.

While still part of the second generation, the 2020 Acadia has received a significant facelift. Along with renovated exterior styling, the 2020 Acadia comes with more technology, redesigned alloy wheels, a new turbocharged engine and transmission, and an all-new trim option.

In other words, the SUV offers more to drivers than ever before. Fans of previous Acadias who wouldn’t mind a more aggressive appearance and refined features are sure to love the 2020 models. Let’s discuss some of these big changes in more detail.

Exterior
Perhaps the most noticeable aspect of the Acadia’s 2020 facelift is its exterior design. Overall, the body style is bolder and more square than previous models.

The vehicle has a refreshed front fascia that brings a ruggedness missing from previous models, starting with a bigger, more upright grille à la 2019 GMC Sierra. GMC’s signature C-shaped lighting is also updated, with the headlights enveloped by elongated horizontal features. LED forward lights come standard on the refresh.

The rear of the 2020 Acadia also sees a revamped fascia, particularly with the taillights. Instead of the C-shaped styling seen on previous models, the new Acadia boasts a simplified vertical bar that stretches from the inside of one taillight to the other.

Interior
The 2020 Acadia doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the interior. Following in the GMC tradition of luxurious interior design, the cabin includes upscale features, such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel with aluminum trim, intuitive and easy-to-reach controls, and black and white gauges with red needles. Buyers of the Denali trim will get a customizable center screen that can display tons of vehicle information.

The cabin also features more premium, soft-touch materials throughout, as well as a redesigned center console that provides more storage space than previous models. The Denali offers a new two-tone color scheme (Dark Galvanized/Light Shale) and open-pore wood adornments.

The interior of the 2020 Acadia is more than just beautiful; it’s also very functional. With the option of six or seven passengers, the Smart Slide feature and a 50/50 split third-row seat provide ultimate flexibility in terms of cargo space.

Technology
The technology in the 2020 Acadia can be summed up in one word: innovation. The optional, industry-leading Next Generation GMC Infotainment System comes with an eight-inch color touchscreen, user-friendly interface, Bluetooth connectivity, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Buyers of the 2020 Acadia can also get 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot, which allows you to connect as many as seven devices. Embedded navigation with Cloud connectivity is also available, and you are guaranteed at least five USB charging ports no matter what trim level you choose.

Performance
Another key feature of the Acadia’s 2020 facelift is its performance. Now available—and standard on SLT and Denali trims—is a dual-scroll turbocharged 2.0L engine, which is good for 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, GMC promises optimum power through the high valve lift and better fuel efficiency through the low valve lift. The SL and SLE trims still come with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine, while the brand-new Acadia AT4 comes with a beefy 3.6L V6 engine.

Along with the introduction of the turbocharged engine, a new nine-speed transmission replaces the previous six-speed transmission on all trims. The new Electronic Precision Shift system, which includes push buttons and pull triggers in place of a gear shaft, will control the transmission. This makes for an even easier driving experience while also creating more cargo space in the center console.

The AT4 Trim
Finally, 2020 marks the first year that the AT4 trim is available to Acadia buyers. Along with the 3.6L V6 engine, the AT4 variant brings a more aggressive and athletic look to the Acadia via distinctive exterior stylings. A harmony of black chrome and gloss black adorn the grille, roof rails, mirror caps, tail lamp panel, and 17-inch wheels (you can opt for 20-inch wheels). The AT4’s interior features dark chrome accents and exclusive Jet Black/Kalahari leather-appointed seats. Moreover, you can choose a five-seat configuration and the Cargo Management System if you want more cargo space.

Conclusion
If you’re looking for a family-friendly crossover that balances boldness with luxury, the 2020 GMC Acadia might be the perfect vehicle for you. From style to function, the upgrades have made the Acadia an even better vehicle than it was before. Don’t take our word for it, though. Come on down to Liberty Buick GMC for a test drive and see for yourself!
