Buick Adds Intelligence to its Wiper System on the Encore -

Buick is staying ahead of the driver with a new wiper feature on the Encore. If you are one of those people who have issues with wipers, you’re going to love this. The Encore, Buick’s small luxury crossover vehicle now comes equipped with a Rainsense feature that tracks the conditions of the car’s windshield and responded accordingly.
Windshield wipers can make that rubbing noise across the not-so-moist windshield that screeches like nails on a chalkboard. Gone. Or when in fast mode, they can make a smacking sound on the bottom of the glass every second. Also gone.

To integrate the Rainsense function into the Encore, a multi-layer of testing had to be performed.  Factors Buick testers needed to consider included windshield pitch, rain intensity, vehicle speed and light conditions. Unlike the intermittent wipers that change the pace of the wiping the glass, the Encore’s Rainsense wipers adjust to the sensitivity of a sensor and to the speed at which the Encore is traveling.

Buick’s Rainsense wipers automatically turn on when rain or water is detected on a windshield, eliminating those little annoying sounds. This sensor is located behind the rearview mirror uses infrared light beams that are invisible to the human eye and sense light retraction when a droplet contacts the windshield.

This new and advance windshield system also works well in the dark. The Rainsense sensor changing the sensitivity in darkness to trigger more wipes, therefore reducing windshield glare.

“The Rainssense wiper system in the Encore constantly monitors the windshield giving the driver one less thing to worry about,” say Scott McCorkle.  “The advance technology is just another way the Buick is adding more luxury and convenience to its cars.”
