Surprise Someone With 2013 Buick Encore for Christmas!

Some people may be hesitant to purchase a new or used vehicle as a Christmas present. It seems like such a large gift, and of course, it isn't the right gift for your coworker or neighbor! But a New 2013 BuickEncore or even used car can be the perfect gift for a spouse, especially if they were thinking about purchasing a new or used car anyway. Giving a vehicle as a Christmas present can be a perfect opportunity to give a spouse the car that they really want when they're shopping for their next vehicle, but didn't think they could afford. But there are some important things to keep in mind when shopping for a new or used vehicle as a gift for someone else.

Come to the dealership already having done some research on the vehicles. Customers should look into the recipient's taste in vehicles and make sure they're shopping for the right car for that person. No one is going to be excited to receive a used Prius when they're more interested in driving something like Yukon Denali.

Of course, you’ll be buying in advance, but you better keep that secret! This can be tricky, but it can be done. The most important thing is to buy the vehicle about  4-7 days in advance. You can't just drive the car home and hide it in the back yard. The easiest way to conceal a brand new car as a Christmas present is by parking it at a friend or family member's house. But be careful! Choose a friend who can keep a secret and not one that your spouse may visit to drop off holiday goodies!

Prepare to sneak the car home on Christmas Eve – this is a real sneaky part (and part of the fun). The gift-giver has to be sure that their spouse is asleep or isn't going to notice that they've left. A good way to sneak out is to make some excuse about buying a few necessary last minute groceries. The hard part now is just making sure the spouse doesn't go outside before Christmas morning! Also be sure to give the dealership a cell phone number, and not a house phone. Customers wouldn't want to run the risk of receiving a phone call from the dealership and having their spouse pick it up. This could ruin the surprise!

Studies have shown that right before Christmas is actually one of the best times of year to go out and buy a new or used vehicle. New vehicles are all on sale because of year-end sales at dealerships, and used cars are usually on sale just before Christmas, as dealers want customers to purchase used vehicles as Christmas presents.

So if you're interested in purchasing a brand new or used vehicle for your loved one this holiday season, you can look no further than Scott McCorkle's Liberty Buick GMC Trucks. Liberty is running great year-end specials, and we're happy to help you find the right car for your spouse! Call 866-442-0871 or visit the website at www.clickliberty.com.

New Lightweight Sheet Metal from General Motors

General Motors is working diligently to pioneer a new system of manufacturing sheet metal that is already used in lightweight cars. This new processing procedure will increase the durability of sheet metal without sacrificing weight benefits. GM’s goal for this new processing procedure will be to provide lightweight magnesium sheet metal to consumers in mass quantities.

GM currently has programs that are developing electric powertrain, developing of more efficient engines, and creating industry breakthroughs like the eAssist. Now the new magnesium sheet metal can help consumers save on gas without sacrificing the essentials of stronger materials. The new sheet metal weighs 75 percent less than the traditional steel used in most cars. That translates to direct savings at the pump. You can see these new features now at the Liberty Buick Dealership on East Independence in Charlotte NC.

One of the main issues with producing a sheet metal this light with this level of strength has been corrosion. This material has been created before, but previous versions of the metal have corroded at a significantly higher rate that prohibited use in the manufacture of vehicles. The new innovative processing technique from GM erases the corrosion issue, and makes the material safe for use in vehicles.

With the new processing system, General Motors will be releasing new vehicles in the future that are designed with magnesium sheet metal in the structure. General Motors also expects to be able to use the magnesium sheet metal in other parts of the vehicle as they continue to refine the processing system to create the strongest lightweight sheet metal possible.

“This innovative use of magnesium is just one example of how GM is leveraging breakthrough technologies that will benefit our customers around the globe,” said Jon Lauckner, GM chief technology officer and vice president of Global Research & Development. “Using high-strength lightweight materials such as magnesium and aluminum is one of the most effective ways to improve vehicle fuel economy and driving performance.”

Greg Warden, the executive director for global vehicle body engineering at GM, also weighed in on the new technologies that are being developed. “Every gram of weight reduction matters when it comes to improving fuel economy. Being able to replace heavier metals with one of the lightest will help us deliver better fuel economy to customers around the world while also still providing the safety and durability they expect.”

Sharing A Buick Memory

Everybody loves Buicks and they have a rich and lively history. Buick dealers around the country often hear stories from repeat customers about Buicks they grew up with and loved. And this writer is no exception…..

My mom drove a big, gray Buick Regal. Not only did our whole family fit on the seats like we were on some lush, fluffy, oversized sofa, so did the groceries, bicycles, cheerleading uniforms, sports equipment and the occasional family pet.

Some of my fondest memories are Saturday afternoons riding in that Buick down I-40, knowing we’d been loaded up to go to Thruway Shopping Center, “the” shopping destination in 1970s Winston-Salem. Once at the shopping center we all three, my two sisters and me, got to choose new books from the public library. Our mom made a shopping loop through Roses, the 1970s answer to Target or K-mart and then we’d all head to Hickory Farms on the lower level for hard candy, served from barrels. We loved it.

Springtime was the best. Mom would pull our hair back and roll the windows down. And let us play the radio. Back then there was a tuning dial and the lucky girl who got the front seat, usually my oldest sister, Anita, would get to scroll slowly, slowly, back and forth, trying to tune the music in just right. That big ole Buick took us sailing down the highway, away from school and day-to-day humdrum, toward candy, books and maybe some other, unknown treat from mom.

The central theme of the American Dream is freedom and for most of us the first sense of it that get is driving a car. The big, gray Buick was my mom’s car and my first symbol of freedom and put the idea of the open road in my head.

My mom’s Buick is in a few family photos that I still have lying around. Just a glimpse at a picture and I can still hear the music and feel the excitement at the possibility of candy.

Driving a great car is as essential to being an American as baseball and apple pie…..so is Buick. What could be better than, not only driving down the highway on a beautiful day, but cruising in an iconic American car down the open road? Today Buick combines a rich history and traditional American car with the latest technology and engineering a great care can have.

Still pining away for a Buick of yesteryear? Don’t. Come down to Scott McCorkle’s Liberty Buick GMC Trucks – a great area Buickdealership – and drive a new or used Buick TODAY! Contact Liberty at 704-321-4366 or visit their website at www.clickliberty.com.

Three Emergency Auto Repairs Anyone Can Do on the Road

Few people know what to do when something on a car breaks. Unless the driver knows a lot about cars and mechanics, most people's first instinct is to just take the car to the mechanic right away. What happens when drivers can't take the car to the mechanic? People get stuck on the side of the road, miles from the nearest mechanic. Sometimes a car can have a problem that makes it dangerous to drive the vehicle, and the driver may not have money for a tow. In any case, there are always emergencies that arise that not everyone can handle just by going to a mechanic. Liberty's Rocky Camilo shares some quick temporary fixes until you can get your car to a service center.

1.  One of the most common emergency roadside situations that can arise is a broken window. A rock can fly up while driving and hit the window, shattering it. The window can't be left wide open, but there's no reason to call a tow just to take the vehicle to the mechanic, and drivers have to do something about the window until it can be repaired. Luckily there is a simple solution to clearing up a broken window temporarily. Simply use a trash bag, preferably a "contractor" trash bag, which is thicker than the average kitchen trash bag. Drivers should make sure they tape down the bag on all sides, and flatten the bag against the window as tight as possible. The more taut the trash bag is, the less likely it is to flap in the wind, make noise, and let air escape.

2.  Sometimes a vehicle's radiator hose may break while driving, for a variety of reasons. A break in the end of the hose may be fixable entirely on the spot. It may be possible, depending on the location of the tear, to cut off the end portion of the hose that contains the tear and then reattach the hose. If this isn't possible, every driver should carry a small roll of rescue tape. After the hose has cooled, drivers can wipe it clean and then wrap the tear with rescue tape. The antifreeze should be topped off with a 50/50 mix after any leak or spill, but if the driver doesn't have any, water can be an emergency substitute until antifreeze can be found.

3.  A tailpipe can sometimes detach from the rear of a vehicle but remain attached closer to the front of the car. This causes the rear end of the tailpipe to drag along on the ground behind the car. If left unattended, the tailpipe can then be ripped from the vehicle and take other, more expensive, auto parts with it. There is however a simple solution to re-suspend the tailpipe from the vehicle and provide a temporary solution to the problem. Simply re-attaching the tailpipe to the vehicle should provide ample time to take the vehicle in for a professional fix. This can be done with a wire hanger or any other wire the driver may have in the vehicle. Drivers should make sure the tailpipe has had plenty of time to cool down after driving before attempting to fix this problem. Drivers also should not attach the wires to any moving parts of the vehicle, such as the drive shaft, or to the brake lines or electrical wiring.

If you're interested in replacing a vehicle that seems to constantly be breaking down please stop by Scott McCorkle's Liberty Buick GMC Trucks at 9028 East Independence Boulevard or call 866-442-0871. Liberty can help you find a vehicle that you can afford with or without financing. Visit the website at www.clickliberty.com.

New Taillights on 2013 Enclave Are an Industry Innovation

Back in 2007 Buick released the all-new Buick Enclave luxury crossover SUV. The Enclave was the first in a series of new Buicks that would mark a brand new era in Buick design. Now, with the 2013 model year just around the corner, the Enclave will bring forth a new industry standard yet again.

The new 2013 Enclave comes equipped with new, advanced exterior lighting. Included in the new exterior lighting is a new innovation in taillights, brought to you by Buick engineers. The new taillights were developed with supplier 3M, and are the” next big thing” in LED taillights. The lights feature a “soft, uniform red glow in a complex and unique shape,” according to a press release from Buick. The new lights, much like the standard LED daytime running lamps and accent lighting, are part of a shift in Buick design that will be offered on many of their new vehicles soon.

“As a brand driven by intelligent design and technology, Buick has to be at the forefront of purposeful, modern design cues,” said Mark Adams, executive director of Buick Design. “Our signature LED lighting serves a double purpose of providing a premium look and making sure our vehicles are unmistakable in the eyes and mirrors of other drivers on the road. Some of the new Enclave’s design cues will carry over to other Buick models to come, but every execution will be true to each model’s character.”

The light supply company, 3M, is responsible for the production of the new signature glow of the Buick Enclave taillight. The lights will utilize the 3M Uniform Lighting Lens Technology. This new light technology is made with an innovative new precision engineered material. This material can provide lighting with even coverage across even the most complex shapes and uses fewer LEDs, which can save on both the complexity of the light fixture and the amount of energy that the light draws from the vehicle.

The 2013 Enclave will also feature new daytime running lamps in the shape of an L. In addition Enclave will utilize high-intensity discharge headlamps, which are much more effective and efficient than the traditional halogen lamps. Inside lighting on the new Enclave is new mood-setting ice blue ambient lighting. Enclave will feature a great new design feature: optional articulating headlamps, which will rotate to fit the curvature of the road.

If you are interested in purchasing a new 2013 Buick Enclave, don’t hesitate to stop by and talk to us at Liberty Buick GMC Trucks today at 9028 East Independence Boulevard; give us a call at 704-321-4366 or visit our website at www.clickliberty.com.

It Pays to Know Your Warranties!

When purchasing a used car it is a good idea to buy the optional extended warranty. Used car dealerships will guarantee their vehicles are not lemons, but even the safest and most reliable used cars will need repairs eventually, and some of them sooner rather than later. A vehicle's worth goes down as the miles go up, and the more miles on your used car the more likely it is that you will need the extended warranty.

The problem is, which used warranty should a used car buyer purchase? Some used car buyers don't know there is more than one. There is often an assumption with any purchase that a warranty will automatically cover important and necessary problems that arise. Not all warranties are built the same, and an extended used car warranty may not provide coverage unless full protection available. Here is a look at the nine major types of used car warranties.

The powertrain warranty, also known as the "standard" warranty, covers most moving parts and the engine. It can cover the timing belt, drive axle, transmission, and CV joints. These are the essential parts of all vehicles, and should be top priority no matter what type of vehicle you purchase.

There is also the components warranty. It covers specific components that are specified in a specific warranty. This warranty can cover anything, basically listing a discounted repair price for the specific part covered. This is an especially important warranty if there is a specific part on the vehicle purchased that is likely to break soon after receiving much wear and tear.

Sometimes a buyer may have to purchase a separate warranty for a hybrid vehicle if they want hybrid parts covered. Hybrid parts can be more expensive, and are often not covered in a standard warranty.

Emissions warranty may be necessary. This warranty covers parts needed to pass current legal emissions standards for a given period of time. Look over a warranty for expiration dates and mile limitations the emissions warranty covers.

Sometimes a rust protection warranty may be purchased. This warranty is especially important if the buyer lives where rust is a common problem, such as in coastal areas. This warranty is not necessary in some regions, but if the buyer plans frequent trips to areas with high salt concentrated air then the rust coverage might be a good idea.

Separate warranties may also be purchased to cover battery replacement. Battery replacement may be covered by a full coverage or bumper to bumper warranty, but not always. Check to make sure this coverage is included or purchase it separately.

Bumper to bumper and full coverage warranties are somewhat similar. Full coverage encompasses many of the parts included in the other warranties listed here. It usually covers most major parts and often roadside assistance. Bumper to bumper warranties typically cover all other problems. This warranty covers anything left over from bumper to bumper like audio systems, electrical systems, and air conditioning.

In the end, only the buyer can decide what is best for them, but it may benefit a buyer to speak with the dealer about what warranty is best for them. An informed opinion can always help make the best decision. Each of these warranties has its benefits, and the decision depends on the type and age of the vehicle being purchased.

If you would like more information about getting an extended warranty and purchasing a used vehicle from Liberty Buick GMC come on out to the dealership or call 866-442-0871. Visit their website at www.clickliberty.com.

GM’s Latest Shocker News, Ewanick Resigns!

GM announces, Joel Ewanick, the Global Chief Marketing Officer has resigned, effective immediately. GM is giving no details regarding this news, other than Alan Batey, Vice President of U.S. Sales and Service will take over Ewanick’s duties in the interim. Mr. Ewanick joined GM in 2010, according to the New York Times, Ewanick left Nissan to help remake GM’s image. Ewanick was responsible for spearheading some shocking advertising and marketing decisions in recent months.

Forbes reports that GM spends about $40 million per year on Facebook marketing and according to the Wall Street Journal, GM in May decided to pull the advertising, they had on Facebook. GM states “We regularly review our overall media spend and make adjustments as needed. In terms of Facebook specifically; while we currently do not plan to continue with advertising, we remain committed to an aggressive content strategy through all of our products and brands, as it continues to be a very effective tool for engaging with our customers.”

GM also dropped a bombshell when they announced per Ewanick early this summer that they would not be advertising on the upcoming Super Bowl, which will be aired Sunday, February 3rd, 2013. This decision according to the Huffington Post was based on cost; CBS was charging approximately $4 Million for a 30 second advertisement. At the time, Ewanick said in a statement “We understand the reach the Super Bowl provides, but with the significant increase in price, we simply can’t justify the expense.” In regards to the Super Bowl decision, Edmunds.com analyst Michelle Krebs states “It feels premature for GM to make such a big decision, since GM will be launching a new line of 2013 full- size pickup trucks and full size SUV’s around Super Bowl time. Super Bowl is ideal for those vehicles and the timing is right.”

Only time will tell what the impact of these GM marketing decisions will be on the 2013 GM sales. In the meanwhile, GM dealerships around the country continue producing local ads in which owners, like Scott McCorkle of Scott McCorkle’s Liberty Buick GMC in North Carolina are featured. Local spots continue to be significant, regardless of what GM decides to do with the National advertising and marketing and dealers like McCorkle are counting on a big 2013 payoff.

2013 GMC Acadia Focuses on Space

The 2013 GMC Acadia made a splash at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show with its new focus on space, cargo and seating capacity. The Acadia is a great three-row crossover that provides the capacity for vacations, regular carpools and yard projects! Tony Disalle, GMC's Vice President of marketing states, ”With an award winning combination of space, capability and fuel-efficiency, Acadia optimizes GMC’s ‘never say never’ attitude. For 2013, our engineers and designers applied that same attitude to develop the new Acadia.”

Car and Driver describes the 2013 Acadia as "having sharper creases." Acadia has eliminated the soft, rounded nose and the recessed grill from earlier models. The new interior design includes LED lighting and GMC describes the refined interior as placing an "emphasis on soft touch materials with accent French stitching and red ambient lighting across the dash." And since safety is always a priority with GMC products, the rear vision camera is standard in the Acadia.

The Acadia debuted in 2007 and quickly became a hit with families. Last year was the best sales year ever and with the new improvements, GMC dealers like Scott McCorkle’s Liberty Buick GMC is hopeful that drivers will be eager to try the 2013 Acadia. The three rows of seating is a plus for families and groups, and all the gear for just about any outing or activity. The seating and cargo space is ample to get everyone and everything there in comfort with room to spare.

Considering finally building that tree house? The 2013 Acadia is the answer to hauling all the plywood. The 2nd and 3rd rows can be folded down completely flat to accommodate sheets of wood up to 48 inches wide to build the best tree house on the block!
