GM’s Latest Shocker News, Ewanick Resigns!

GM announces, Joel Ewanick, the Global Chief Marketing Officer has resigned, effective immediately. GM is giving no details regarding this news, other than Alan Batey, Vice President of U.S. Sales and Service will take over Ewanick’s duties in the interim. Mr. Ewanick joined GM in 2010, according to the New York Times, Ewanick left Nissan to help remake GM’s image. Ewanick was responsible for spearheading some shocking advertising and marketing decisions in recent months.

Forbes reports that GM spends about $40 million per year on Facebook marketing and according to the Wall Street Journal, GM in May decided to pull the advertising, they had on Facebook. GM states “We regularly review our overall media spend and make adjustments as needed. In terms of Facebook specifically; while we currently do not plan to continue with advertising, we remain committed to an aggressive content strategy through all of our products and brands, as it continues to be a very effective tool for engaging with our customers.”

GM also dropped a bombshell when they announced per Ewanick early this summer that they would not be advertising on the upcoming Super Bowl, which will be aired Sunday, February 3rd, 2013. This decision according to the Huffington Post was based on cost; CBS was charging approximately $4 Million for a 30 second advertisement. At the time, Ewanick said in a statement “We understand the reach the Super Bowl provides, but with the significant increase in price, we simply can’t justify the expense.” In regards to the Super Bowl decision, Edmunds.com analyst Michelle Krebs states “It feels premature for GM to make such a big decision, since GM will be launching a new line of 2013 full- size pickup trucks and full size SUV’s around Super Bowl time. Super Bowl is ideal for those vehicles and the timing is right.”

Only time will tell what the impact of these GM marketing decisions will be on the 2013 GM sales. In the meanwhile, GM dealerships around the country continue producing local ads in which owners, like Scott McCorkle of Scott McCorkle’s Liberty Buick GMC in North Carolina are featured. Local spots continue to be significant, regardless of what GM decides to do with the National advertising and marketing and dealers like McCorkle are counting on a big 2013 payoff.

2013 GMC Acadia Focuses on Space

The 2013 GMC Acadia made a splash at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show with its new focus on space, cargo and seating capacity. The Acadia is a great three-row crossover that provides the capacity for vacations, regular carpools and yard projects! Tony Disalle, GMC's Vice President of marketing states, ”With an award winning combination of space, capability and fuel-efficiency, Acadia optimizes GMC’s ‘never say never’ attitude. For 2013, our engineers and designers applied that same attitude to develop the new Acadia.”

Car and Driver describes the 2013 Acadia as "having sharper creases." Acadia has eliminated the soft, rounded nose and the recessed grill from earlier models. The new interior design includes LED lighting and GMC describes the refined interior as placing an "emphasis on soft touch materials with accent French stitching and red ambient lighting across the dash." And since safety is always a priority with GMC products, the rear vision camera is standard in the Acadia.

The Acadia debuted in 2007 and quickly became a hit with families. Last year was the best sales year ever and with the new improvements, GMC dealers like Scott McCorkle’s Liberty Buick GMC is hopeful that drivers will be eager to try the 2013 Acadia. The three rows of seating is a plus for families and groups, and all the gear for just about any outing or activity. The seating and cargo space is ample to get everyone and everything there in comfort with room to spare.

Liberty Pontiac-GMC Kicks off the Season with Mint Hill Athletic Association

Liberty Pontiac-GMC sponsors Mint Hill Athletic Association and helps raise thousands of dollars with a vehicle giveaway

Matthews (10/13/2009) – Liberty Pontiac-GMC of Matthews is partnering with Mint Hill Athletic Association to provide the league’s players and coaches with equipment, a monetary donation, and a chance to raise up to $10,000.

In support of Matthews’s youth, Liberty Pontiac-GMC will provide Mint Hill Athletic Association with football kits filled with equipment bags, water coolers, coaches’ clipboards and t-shirts.

Offering additional support to the community, the Mint Hill Athletic Association will have the opportunity to raise as much as $10,000 through a fundraising opportunity where one lucky recipient will win a new Buick, Pontiac or GMC vehicle of their choice (up to $33,500 MSRP). Liberty Pontiac-GMC and other Charlotte-area Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealerships are donating the vehicle to the participating leagues. One-hundred percent of the proceeds go directly to the participating leagues, and they can use the funds in any way they choose. Some of the leagues have reported they plan to grant scholarships to families who cannot afford to enroll their children in the league, while others have said they will use the funds to improve fields and equipment.
