The Annual Charlotte International Auto Show is a time when all dealers
are present under one roof to present their very best car models. This year, the
2017 Auto Show hosted more than 300 vehicle models from over 30 different
manufactures. To kick off the event, a preview party was held on Wednesday,
November 1 and different events were held throughout the week. The Auto Show
was open to guests from November 2-5th at the Charlotte Convention Center.
All dealers who had vehicles in the show
were invited to come to the preview party to network with fellow dealers, view
cars, and support their favorite charities. Liberty Buick GMC proudly participated
in and contributed to the 25th Annual Charlotte International Auto
Show.

Kicking Off At The Preview Party
During the preview party, numerous events took place as guests
mingled and enjoyed viewing the top vehicles from each manufacturer. One of
these exciting events included an appearance by NFL football player Thomas
Davis, a linebacker for the Carolina Panthers. In Davis’s appearance, he signed
autographs and participated in a question and answer session for fans and
car-connoisseurs alike.
The preview party event also included a special time-slot
designated for awarding Dealer of The Year. Scott McCorkle, the owner of
Liberty Buick GMC, was a nominee. At the end of the evening, he was honored to
receive the title of runner-up for the Dealer of the Year. Gerry Woods, from
Salisbury, NC, was announced as the winner for the Dealer of the Year award.
Also in attendance with Scott was his wife and fellow
philanthropist, Kim McCorkle. Both deeply involved in their community and a
number of national and local charities, the Auto Show was especially engaging
since they were able to donate to charities they had worked alongside for years.
Scott and Kim McCorkle said, “It’s all about the charities; we love to give
back and aid others where help is needed.”
Each year, the Auto Show expands the charities that its
proceeds go toward. This year the Auto Show supported a stunning number of charities,
including but not limited to:
·
Boy Scouts
·
Girl Scouts
·
Boys & Girls Clubs
·
Charlotte Mecklenburg Police
·
A Child’s Place
·
Charlotte Rescue Mission
·
Dove’s Nest
·
Urban Ministries
·
YMCA
·
Friendship Trays
·
Communities in Schools
·
Thompson Child & Family Focus
·
Rotary 9/11 Scholarship
·
Union County Community Shelter
The McCorkle family takes pride in supporting the CMPD, but
especially enjoys contributing to the CMPD K-9 unit. The CMPD’s K-9 currently
has 14 dogs that help protect our community. The K-9 companions typically spend
7 years on the team before retiring and spending time at home with their
officer. These dogs also hold a special place in the hearts of the McCorkle
family. At the preview party, Scott and Kim McCorkle presented a donation to K-9
Officer, Pete Capotosta and his dog, Leonidas. Leonidas joined the
Charlotte-Mecklenburg unit in 2015, all the way from Holland, and has been
working with his officer, Capotosta ever since.
Popular Activities
The Auto Show featured a full, action-packed seven days of
events that were exciting and fun for everyone. These ranged from the
showcasing of new and impressive international vehicles to family-fun
activities put on just for kids.
History of the
Automobile
A blast back into the past is always an exciting way to relive
the history of how automobiles became an integrated tool, pastime, and economy
of society. Automobiles have had quite a journey in getting to where they are today.
From exterior and interior design changes to better safety and improve technology,
it is amazing to see how tremendously vehicles have transformed in The History
of the Automobile display. The display is very popular, since it allows guests
to view automobiles all the way from their early conception, follow the journey
of auto-revolutions, and even peak into the dynamic future of vehicles.
Family Day
Family Day was held on November 5, which was also the last
day of the Auto Show. It is easy to see how this is a favorite day for many
Auto Show attendees. Of course, families are always welcome to the Auto Show,
but Family Day is a day designed especially for kids. Some of the fun activities
held on Family Day included a thrilling November visit from Santa Claus, live
music, face painting, and so many more exciting events. Family Day was free for
kids 12 and under with the purchase of an adult ticket. Between the
family-friendly events and getting to experience the Auto Show displays on its
final day, everyone who participated had a wonderful time.
Overall, the 2017 Charlotte International Preview Show was a
